Julien Vallee - working methods

Julein Vallee is one of those artists which always refreshes my way of thinking and reminds me of the many joys of moving image. You can tell he has fun with the practical side of his work and its always good fun to watch how he creates it. This is one of Julein Vallee's recent pieces. 'OFFF Paris Sponsors Title.'

What interests me about Julien's work is his active way of working. He applies himself to his pieces, and edits in a way which makes it look more simple and direct in terms of movement and transition. This piece is an example of how he gets creative with using objects such as a leaf blower to scatter paper or dropping a basketball which then turns into a melon!

Inspired by this idea i used this way of working in my leaf scene for my Green and Blacks climax. Using a 3 leaves and a white screen i simply dropped them from a height and filmed them falling. This has achieved a natural and raw flowing visual. I enjoy working in this way, getting away from the computer for a bit and getting more physical with how i carry out my idea.

It never fails to get my attention when artists carryout these ideas that are outside of the box and original in terms of not only their idea, but how they execute it. I think this makes you appreciate the piece even more and makes you interested in how they did it and what obsticals they had to overcome.

Introducing perhaps a science or calculation to moving image - how this is planned and how you may apply this to make it work for you, i find an interesting side of moving image. This is an example which really stands alone in its own merit. By Cinco at Passion Pictures. Titled 'Fiat Florescent.'
