We are currently decorating my house, and part of the job was to remove the old fire place. Whilst doing so my uncle accidentally chipped the plaster on the inside! Everyone had a fit about it, but i saw it as something interesting!
The way in which the hole is formed, gives me a vision of a surreal human like figure. It reminds me of the work by Jenny Saville, as a lot of her work surrounds the human form. Experimenting with it by distorting and exaggerating its appearance.
I remember recently when Damian Gascoigne visited, and he opened up his presentation with some mind blowing photos of things hes seen that get him thinking. Helping him to open up an idea or to draw some inspiration from. Of course Damian developed these raw ideas further, producing character based designs, CGI models etc, which was not my personal intention when taking this photo. I want to show how my mind works, and what gets me thinking. Im starting to recognise things everyday, and has become a great habbit!
In past work i have found myself using sausage shapes and triangles to help guide me when drawing the human structure. Such as in story boarding. I would like to break free from that safety zone, and become more expressive when capturing these forms. This photo has definitely opened my eyes!
