Doritos Tribe!
www.youtube.com/doritos
This is the winner of the "You make it, we play it" campaign, set out by the Doritos company to challenge the public to create their own advert for Doritos.
There were over 200 entries for this competition, and a 25 year old, Matt Bowron from London was the winner with this piece.
The piece uses stop motion animation, showing the Dorito chips escaping from the packet and dancing around the jar of salsa, then retreating when the man enters the room.
I think that its the simplicity of this advert which gives it its charm. The way it is constructed is blatantly amateur, and therefor stands out amongst other adverts in its area.
The jerkiness of the stop frame animation gives the piece a more down to earth feel, encouraging the idea that its organic.
This advert is something everyone can appreciate, as they can adapt to the simplicity of the concept, and isn't over powering with information. It introduces the idea that the company is fun, easy going, and potentially unafraid to stretch the boundaries and try something new.
