This is a sculpture from an exhibition i went to at Stockport College on 16th June 09. There was a wide display of work from different areas of study. I was particularly drawn towards this sculpture because of its simplicity. When observing others work in comparison, this piece stood out because of its clean and unspoiled appearance.

Its a rather modern design. There is interestingly, no use of color. Its a white sculpture, on a white background! This is actually what made it stand out to me, and got me thinking. It doesn't have to be bright and in your face to be recognized!

I find this a refreshing piece because of its spacious quality. Sort of a breath of fresh air as you see it amongst the other work. Showing that the artist is thinking outside the box.

When observing this piece, i see a violent and rather sinister feeling is being expressed. Its form appears unpredictable and dangerous. Because the piece has no color, it takes away the dramatic notes, leaving you with this quiet but dominant impression.
In my opinion, i see this piece as a symbol for domestic violence. It has an unsettling structure, together with an innocent masking. This idea of whats behind the facade, encourages an anxious and insecure
message.

It reminds me of the photo titled 'The Gift' by 'Man Ray' (shown to the right) where it features an iron, with nails attached to the bottom. I see these delivering the similar sort of message.
