Portfolio review_we are seventeen

Just finished my portfolio review with We Are Seventeen in London. This was a great experience and a great opperunity to learn about how i can improve my work to match the creative standards of a professional workplace. We Are Seventeen are a design company in London, who have done work on channel idents, adverts and title sequences. So this was an ideal place for me to get feedback on my 2nd year work.

As we sat and talked through my work, i got some great feedback especially on my FX channel ident. I was advised that the idea is strong but can be developed further, and test my skills more technically, by animating more complex structures, in order to make the piece more exciting. Adding more elements in the frame so the piece will appeal more.

They liked the sophisticated approach to the design, and the flowing nature of the animation. They enjoyed the ending shot, where the shapes join together with a smooth folding movement. Explaining that the animation works to compliment the FX logo well, but the animated shapes could be smoother and less defined, to make the piece look more professional.

Another thing that was vital to my designs were that i must be aware of tv safe areas, particularly in my title sequence. They said this is extremely important, an trivial problem to my design but must be acnowledged when i am composing my ideas. For example, my FX ident (ending scene) must be scaled down to avoid any problems with fitting it onto various sizes of tv screen.

At the moment i am working on updating some of my past work in order to reach higher technical standards. So this visit was very helpful for me to recognize and learn about how i can aim my work in the right direction, and also where abouts i am in terms of creativity and technical standards.
